Afternoon All

A place to come on in, warm your feet by the fire, pour yourself a large house double, and say hello . Let us know as much and as little about yourself as you're prepared to put on a forum.

Afternoon All

Post by dwbrown »

Thought I'd better introduce myself after getting this all up and running again.
Most people call me Brownz, but you can call me anything you like (within reason).
I've owned GP0385 since June 2012 and like nothing more than to meet up with the wonderful GP family for shows and other social events.
The GP is my daily driver and has done some epic roadtrips around Europe and even in 2015 a trip to Norway via Holland / Germany / Denmark which was just awesome.

I was 20 years in the OEM PC business as a hardware engineer specialising in Thermal Engineering / Desktop Mainboards / CPUs / Storage / Graphics and Certification. It was immense fun but with a lot of travel to smelly factories in places where you'd better like spicy food (heaven to me !!), but that all came to an end when the firm pulled out of the hardware market making 300 of us redundant. Now I get paid to listen to music all day - well, actually run the service department for the UKs largest HiFi distributor supplying the likes of Richer Sounds / Sevenoaks / Amazon and independent High Street HiFi shops etc, but it's great fun and I get to play with some lovely expensive kit ;-)

After the demise of the old forums I've been working hard to get this all in place, paying for and setting up reliable and scaleable hosting, and rebuilding the forum to be as similar as I can remember it. Hopefully we can entice all the old members back whilst also welcoming new members into the fold, and make it a welcoming and friendly place very much in the way GP Mick (our spiritual leader and founding father) would be proud of. RIP Mick. I'm ashamed of the way the old forum folded and hopefully everyone can resign that debacle to the past where it belongs and start afresh.

So, these are your forums, feel free to PM me with suggestions of things you'd like to see, please take part, please contribute, feel free to suggest runs / meets / lunches etc outside of the usual show calendar. I'm learning this software on the fly, and work 9-5 so please bear with me if you don't get a reply immediately.

Don't be mean to others - if you're mean then old papa bear will get all grizzly on yer butt (you'll get banned for sure), banter is fun, if you overstep the mark accidently - apologise, that'll earn you more respect than you'll ever need.

We have a solid team of mods with me in the background running the techy stuff. If you want to help out again just get in contact.

Most importantly - Have fun everyone !!

Add my thanks Brownz as I am a fan of forums over FB (if only for the reason that I am actually quite tired of FB!). I might be one of those that oversteps the mark sometimes as i am quite opinionated i guess but I always try not to and also attempt to apologise (generally in advance)

As time goes on am more than happy to contribute (money) to help with hosting costs and I will try and learn my way around the software too.

I am really glad to see a forum up and running. It's set out really well and now it's working on Tapatalk I'm thrilled! I can post loads of boring stuff up all day long haha.

Cool that you're in the Hi-Fi trade. I'm rather envious. My setup is somewhat lacking use since I sold my turntable. I know what one I'd like next but saving for it is proving hard work what with trying to build a track car and do a bit to the GP. I've also been trying to sell my integrated amp for aaaages to fund a pair of Heed mono blocks but no bites yet!

Thanks again brownz for your hard work getting this set up! It's much appreciated and as said above a forum is a much better place than facebook

My plan is to get across the water at some point this year to one of the big events to hopefully meet some of you.
GP1 #0295 for weekends
Mercedes E500 for wafting
Shogun V6 for off-roading
GSXR750 for fun

Nice setup ! We've just had the Bristol HiFi show this weekend so the showroom is a little bit decimated at the moment !!
